Alaskan Hunting Trips

The wondrous landscape of Alaska is rich with all kinds of beautiful wildlife.  Many people enjoy hunting in Alaska because of the wide variety of animals that can be found, the rugged land, and the overall challenge of the hunt.  Most commonly caught in Alaska are bears, moose, caribou, and sheep.  While hunters may flock to Alaska for the thrill of the catch, it is of the utmost importance to remember that the US Federal Government has set forth certain hunting rules and regulations.  These rules must be followed, or serious penalties may incur including loss of your hunting license and rather large monetary fines.  Be sure when hunting in Alaska that you are aware of the current laws, and that you follow them carefully.  It is recommended that you go on a chartered or chaperoned trip, not only because your guide will know the best areas and techniques to use, but also for safety reasons.  If you are in an area you are unfamiliar with, it is best to go supervised with someone who is familiar with the area.

Hunting for larger animals such as bear or moose is known as “big game” hunting.  It’s imperative that you or at least your guide is fully licensed.  Many Alaska hunting trips require at least one night stay, often many more than that, so typically a real hunting excursion consists of camping in the wilderness as well.  Survival skills and supplies are necessary for such a trip, so read up on the weather conditions, the type of land you’ll be covering, and make a checklist of everything you will need to bring along.  Once you’ve hit the wilderness, an exciting opportunity awaits you.  Hunting for the various animals in Alaska is a challenge, but it is one that reaps major rewards.  The hunting done in Alaska will be both a trip and an experience that you should never forget.
